Brian – Drums
Born into a musical family, drumming began around the ripe age of 7 by way of jamming on an arrangement of coffee tins and an assortment of any cylinder-shaped objects that I could use to make glorious noise! First real kit came around age 10 and the fascination continues to this day. Someday I’ll figure this thing out. Raised in the oft-maligned and misperceived Garden State, life brought me to Colorado in 1998 and music has afforded me opportunities to meet dozens of beautiful souls and perform together in some of the greatest venues the state has to offer. From reggae to funk to jazz to classic rock and just about everything in between, I’ve tackled it all and have the scars and gray beard to show for it.
A combo of self-taught and school-taught, including an immersion into the essentials of funk by way of Pat Petrillo at the Groove Academy in NJ, at the core my playing is rooted in a foundation of pocket and flow with an occasional flare for the dramatic. I did grow up in the 80’s, what can I say?
With influences ranging from Genesis and Rush to Steely Dan and James Brown to the Grateful Dead, MMW and a recent personal favorite Minus the Bear, I’m happy to be a part of the Hot Spell band and the variety and diversified skill that comes with.
When not making music, I enjoy hiking, soccer, cooking, red, red wine and joking around with my two beautiful baby girls … a truly humbling experience. And lastly, endless thanks to my lovely wife for allowing me to continue pursuing this passion.
